5.2.1. Searching Packages
You can search all
RPM package names, descriptions and summaries by using the following command:
yum
search
term…
This command displays the list of matches for each term. For example, to list all packages that match “meld” or “kompare”, type:
~]# yum search meld kompare
Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit
============================== N/S Matched: meld ===============================
meld.noarch : Visual diff and merge tool
python-meld3.x86_64 : HTML/XML templating system for Python
============================= N/S Matched: kompare =============================
komparator.x86_64 : Kompare and merge two folders
Name and summary matches only, use "search all" for everything.
The yum search
command is useful for searching for packages you do not know the name of, but for which you know a related term.
